Update or reinstall the most recent drivers for your GPU to fix this.<\/p><ul><li>Please perform a <strong>Clean Install<\/strong> of the GPU drivers as they can often become corrupt and a standard install will not fix broken drivers.<\/li><\/ul><p><em>Note: If you have both an integrated GPU as well as a dedicated GPU you might need to update both sets of drivers.<\/em><\/p><hr \/><p>If you are seeing this as part of the message \u201cGraphic Card not supported: GDI Generic\u201d then either:<\/p><ol><li>Your GPU driver is not installed (<strong>install up-to-date drivers<\/strong>)<\/li><li>Windows or some other system config is blocking Foundation using your GPU<br \/><em>This can happen when you are using a VM, sandbox, docker or other similar services. Please refer to the services documentation or support.<\/em><\/li><\/ol><hr \/><p>If you have <strong>dual GPU<\/strong>s:<\/p><p>Gaming laptops often have both integrated and dedicated GPUs, you might need to force the dedicated GPU to be used for the game.<\/p><ul><li>This can usually be done from within the driver properties. Please refer to the GPU manufacturer documentation.<\/li><\/ul><p>Some desktop PC CPUs come with integrated graphics solutions alongside having a dedicated GPU.<\/p><ul><li>Ensure your monitor(s) is plugged into your dedicated GPU and not the motherboard integrated GPU port.<\/li><\/ul><hr \/><p>Another possible OpenGL issue could arise if you have your Windows color depth set below 32-bit.<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"ea-card sp-ea-single\"><h3 class=\"ea-header\"><a class=\"collapsed\" id=\"ea-header-19031\" role=\"button\" data-sptoggle=\"spcollapse\" data-sptarget=\"#collapse19031\" aria-controls=\"collapse19031\" href=\"#\" aria-expanded=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\"><i aria-hidden=\"true\" role=\"presentation\" class=\"ea-expand-icon eap-icon-ea-expand-plus\"><\/i> Fatal Error: Can't create log file \/ Game won't start<\/a><\/h3><div class=\"sp-collapse spcollapse spcollapse\" id=\"collapse19031\" data-parent=\"#sp-ea-1903\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"ea-header-19031\"> <div class=\"ea-body\"><p>When loading the game, the first thing to happen is the foundation.log file is created in the games user files. Make sure you have a system that meets the minimum requirements to run the game and (re)install the latest drivers for your graphics card (GPU) with a <\/span><strong><i>clean install<\/i><\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"><strong>.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/span><\/p><p><b>NVIDIA<\/b><\/p><ol><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Open the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-gb\/software\/nvidia-app\/\">Nvidia App<\/a><\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Check for Updates and download the latest driver package<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Select Custom installation<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\">Ensure <strong>Perform a clean installation<\/strong> option is ticked<\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Proceed with the installation<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Relaunch the game<\/span><\/li><\/ol><p><b>AMD<\/b><\/p><ol><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Download the latest driver package from the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amd.com\/en\/support\">AMD support site<\/a><\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\">Download and run the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.amd.com\/en\/resources\/support-articles\/faqs\/GPU-601.html\">AMD cleanup utility<\/a> (or DDU) to remove the old drivers<\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Proceed with the installation<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Relaunch the game<\/span><\/li><\/ol><hr \/><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Additionally, your antivirus might block the visual component of the game, as Foundation.exe is modified with each update. Usually, Valve packages C++ Redistributable files required to run the game on Steam. In some cases though, it\u2019s possible you need to download and install them manually.<br \/>They can be found here (choose x64): <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/cpp\/windows\/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">https:\/\/learn.microsoft.com\/en-us\/cpp\/windows\/latest-supported-vc-redist?view=msvc-170<\/span><\/a><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">If you want to test running the game as administrator for potential issues, here\u2019s how:<\/span><\/p><ol><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Locate Foundation.exe on your computer. You can always do this through the browse option in the game's properties\u00a0<\/span><\/li><li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Right-click on Foundation.exe, then click Run as Administrator<\/span><\/li><li>If you get a missing DLL error use the above link to download the vcredist package<\/li><\/ol><\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"ea-card sp-ea-single\"><h3 class=\"ea-header\"><a class=\"collapsed\" id=\"ea-header-19034\" role=\"button\" data-sptoggle=\"spcollapse\" data-sptarget=\"#collapse19034\" aria-controls=\"collapse19034\" href=\"#\" aria-expanded=\"false\" tabindex=\"0\"><i aria-hidden=\"true\" role=\"presentation\" class=\"ea-expand-icon eap-icon-ea-expand-plus\"><\/i> The game crashes a lot or you get a Windows blue screen (BSOD)<\/a><\/h3><div class=\"sp-collapse spcollapse spcollapse\" id=\"collapse19034\" data-parent=\"#sp-ea-1903\" role=\"region\" aria-labelledby=\"ea-header-19034\"> <div class=\"ea-body\"><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The most important thing to do in this case is to <strong>submit a crash report<\/strong> with more details so we can investigate. Players noticed that:<\/p><ul><li>Their GPU was plugged into the incorrect PCIe slot on their motherboard.<br \/>or<\/li><li>Their PCIe slot was not setup correctly in the motherboard BIOS.<\/li><\/ul><p>High-end GPUs generally require a Gen 4.0 x16 PCIe slot or better.<\/p><p>It is important, in most cases, to use slot 1 on your motherboard.
